In Absentia is a generative, question-driven installation that continuously reprocesses archival material, testimonies, media coverage, and public records surrounding unresolved political violence in Malta. Fragments of several cases are recombined to form an evolving vigil—a living archive that loops upon itself without resolution. The installation resists closure. It draws from the fluid persistence of water: unmonumental, shapeless, yet unignorable. Memory here does not calcify into statues or plaques; instead, it flows, wearing down hardness through time, creating space for grief to remain open. By foregrounding fragility and persistence, In Absentia proposes the "living monument"—a refusal to silence or monumentalise mourning, and an insistence that memory continues to surface, transform, and demand justice.
